Pediatric Intravenous Cannulation: Overview
Abstract
Intravenous (IV) cannulation is an integral part of modern medicine and is practiced in every healthcare setting. It is a complex procedure compared to adult IV cannulation. Because pediatric veins are small and thin, the nurses should be knowledgeable and skillful regarding pediatric IV cannulation. It is commonly indicated when fluids administer intravenously. Complication of IV cannulation includes phlebitis, cannula occlusion, extravasation, etc. Knowledge and skills regarding pediatric IV cannulation is very important to prevent complication. Venous Infusion Phlebitis Score helps to check the cannula site, thereby can prevent complications.References (16)
