Enhancing Awareness of Cytotoxic Drug Handling: Evaluation of a Structured Teaching Program for Nursing Staff in Jalandhar Hospitals
Abstract: Cytotoxic medications are used to treat cancer all around the world. These medications are often made specifically for each patient and are given as bolus injections or infusions. The cytotoxic drugs are classified as hazardous drugs by Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA). Nurses dealing with cytotoxic drugs have potential risk of occupational health hazards as these drugs are potentially carcinogenic, mutagenic, or teratogenic by nature. Staff nurses’ occupational health …

Exploring the Current Practices of Nurses, Preparing and Administering Chemotherapeutic Drugs to Children
Abstract: Introduction: Emergence of chemotherapeutic drugs has immensely benefitted current prognosis of childhood cancers but unintentional exposure to harmful agents may endanger life of health care workers who repeatedly get exposed to cytotoxic drugs. Nurses’ safety can be ensured with evidence based standard protocols related to chemotherapeutic drug preparation and administration, use of PPE, proper handling of hazardous waste, spill management etc. Objective: To explore ongoing practices, casual daily routine activities, …

In-Vitro and In-Vivo Anti-Adipogenecity Activity of Two Plants using Rat Models
Abstract: This study examines how extracts of plant affect the dyslipidaemic state of fatty acid induced rats. Eight days following induction for differentiation with C-DMEM and simultaneously tested with the extracts of plant (day 8), our study found significantly reduced (p < 0.05) intracellular lipid accumulations in white muscle cells in the rats. This compared positively against the smaller reduction in accumulation found in the standard drug streptozotosin (STZ). This suppressing …

Formulation and Characterization of Polyhydroxyalkanoates Copolymer Nanoparticles for Controlled Drug Release
Abstract: The present study was focused on the formulation of polyhydroxyalkanoates copolymer nanoparticles (PHANPs) for in vitro controlled release of the drugs, viz. levofloxacin and amoxicillin. The PHANPs were synthesized by a triple emulsion method and conjugated with amoxicillin and levofloxacin to improve its remedial bioavailability. The PHANPs and drug conjugatedPHANPs were analysed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). The cell viability % …

High Blood Pressure and Occupational Exposure to Antineoplastic Agents Among Healthcare Professionals
Abstract: Objective: The aim of our study was to determine prevalence and risk for high blood pressure (HBP) among personnel exposed to antineoplastic agents (drugs, ADs) among healthcare workers. Materials and methods: We conducted a descriptive analytical study of 108 exposed to antineoplastic agents in 5 oncology departments and 326 unexposed subjects. All subjects completed a medical and occupational questionnaire. We estimated exposure to ADs using exposure time and the cytotoxic …

Antimicrobial Activity of Waste Pulp of Citrus sinensis and Citrus limetta
Abstract: An antimicrobial is a substance which kills or inhibits the growth of different types of micro-organisms such as bacteria, fungi or protozoans. Citrus fruit products act as antimicrobial agents against the bacteria and the fungus. Citrus fruits belong to the family Rutaceae. The main objective was to determine the antimicrobial activity of Citrus sinensis waste pulp and to determine the antimicrobial activity of Citrus limetta waste pulp. The citrus pulp …
