Pre-extension Demonstration of Improved Cassava Technologies with Chopping Device at Gofa Zone, Southern Ethiopia
Abstract: The production and use of cassava is not well known to farmers, although there are several local varieties of cassava that have been used for food security purposes at different times in drought-prone areas of the Gofa Zone, Southern region. To address this issue, the Arba Minch Agricultural Research Center conducted an adaptation trial of the improved cassava varieties Chichu and Hawassa-04 at the station level and obtained promising results. …

Evaluating Remedy of Oil Polluted Environment Using Fermented Cassava Liquid
Abstract: A 28-day experimental investigation was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of fermented cassava liquid in the bioremediation of crude oil-contaminated soils. Three soil types, namely clay, sandy-loamy, and swampy soils, were examined. Cassava liquid was fermented for six days to allow sufficient microbial growth before being introduced into the contaminated soil samples. Uninoculated contaminated soil served as the control. Soil samples were collected at one-week intervals throughout the study for …

Comparative Study of Dextrose Production from Locally Sourced Cassava, Tigernut and Yam
Abstract: Starch was extracted after sedimentation from seven samples, TME 419, TMS 30572, Provitamin, Tigernut, Boko, Mumuyi and Onitsha. The first three samples were cassava varieties while the last three samples were species of yam variety Dioscorea rotundata. The extracted starch were gelatinized and hydrolyzed enzymatically to produce 250ml of dextrose from each sample. From spectrometer analysis it showed that Mumuyi dextrose has the highest glucose concentration of 0.72mg/ml when compared …

Effect of Varying Levels of High-Quality Cassava Peels on Broiler Finisher Growth and Hematological Indices
Abstract: In a completely randomized design, 150 three-week-old Abor Acre broiler birds were randomly assigned into five nutritional treatments, and each nutritional treatment was administered to thirty birds replicated three times, with ten birds each. The birds were fed for 21 days. High-quality cassava peel replaced 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of maize in the five treatment diets T1, T2, T3, T4, and T5, respectively. Body changes were recorded weekly, …

Comparative Study on Production and Characterization of Bioethanol from Agricultural Waste Materials
Abstract: Production and characterization of bioethanol from lignocellulosic substrates that include sugarcane bagasse, corn cob and cassava peels were investigated in this research study. The raw materials (sugarcane bagasse, corn cob and cassava peels) were sorted, washed, cleansed to remove dirts and dried to remove moisture contents, and crushed into ground form to increase substrate’s surface area of contacts and sieved through a mesh size of 2 mm. The bioethanol distillates …

Integrating Trees, Shrubs, and Perennial Biomass Crops into Livestock Systems: A Pathway to Sustainable Tropical Farming Systems
Abstract: Livestock production in the tropics faces increasing challenges due to climate change, land degradation, feed shortages, and environmental concerns. Integrating trees, shrubs, and perennial biomass crops into livestock farming systems offers a sustainable approach to addressing these challenges. This study explores the potentials of agroforestry-based livestock systems in enhancing feed availability, improving animal nutrition, promoting soil health, and mitigating the environmental footprint of livestock farming. Trees and shrubs provide high-protein …
