Abstract

Present work deals with the lightweight aggregate concrete (LWAC) by using Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate (LECA) as lightweight aggregate, LECA is used as replacement to the natural coarse aggregate in the concrete, in this experimental work percentage of lightweight aggregates are varied to study the change in the properties of concrete made by blending LECA. LECA content was varied from 20% to 100% at an increment of 20%. Total 6 mixes were studied including the control mix. The controlled mix is the one without LECA. Light weight aggregate LECA was used in the mix in prewetted condition. The mechanical properties such as compressive strength and split tensile strength were carried out in this study. The test results showed that increasing the percentage of replacement decrease the density of concrete from 2429.62 kg/m3 to 1629.62 kg/m3 at same time the strength of the concrete also reduced.
