3D Stress State Dependent Failure Model for Fracture Simulations
Abstract: The state of stress is defined by triaxiality (hydrostatic pressure) and the lode angle parameter (deviatoric stress third invariant). The stress state not only varies with different kinds of loading but also with the location of the stress concentration, geometry of specimen and deformation. The LS-DYNA implementation of a strain-based, stress state dependent failure criterion for a ductile material is investigated through simulations of standard experiments in this paper. A …

Dynamic Matrix Control Versus Nonlinear ModelPredictive Control for the Van de Vusse ContinuousStirred-Tank Reactor: Diagnosing and Correcting aCost-Function Pathology That Masked NMPC’sTrue Performance
Abstract: The Van de Vusse reaction in a continuous stirred-tank reactor (CSTR) is a benchmark for nonlinear multivariable control, but its narrow operating envelope creates a trap for nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC): when the setpoint step is small relative to the plant’s reachable range, a standard quadratic NMPC cost function can make zero control action mathematically optimal, even with a perfect prediction model. This paper documents that failure mode, traces …

A Review: Performance analysis of overlapping shear keys in box girder bridges using finite element based software
Abstract: Abstract - Box girder bridges are widely used for long-span constructions due to their high strength-to-weight ratio and structural efficiency. A fundamental component in these bridges is the shear key which allows for effective transfer of loads between bridge segments and upholds the overall structural performance through the different load cases. Overlapping shear keys are becoming increasingly popular because they greatly enhance inter-segment connections, which decrease relative displacements. This paper …
