Crude Oil Degradation on the Influence of Palm oil-Fermented Wastewater Used as Biostimulant
Abstract: *Author for CorrespondenceUkpaka Chukwuemeka Peter E-mail: [email protected] The total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) degradation was monitored in a batch reactor with the addition of biostimulants like palm oil processed wastewater (POPWW) acting as nutrients, to effectively enhance high efficiency in contaminants remediation in clay soil. The kinetic components were evaluated in terms of specific rates of petroleum hydrocarbon degradation, maximum specific rate of total petroleum hydrocarbon degradation as well as the …

Biostimulation of Petroleum Hydrocarbon ContaminatedSoils Using Bryophylum Pinnatum Extracts
Abstract: This study investigates the remediation potential of Bryophylum pinnatum extracts (water and ethanol-based) for degrading total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) in loamy and clay soils. Crude oil contaminants used in the study exhibited a pH of 6.76, density of 0.878 g/mL at 15 °C, kinematic viscosity of 147.4 mm²/s at 40 °C, and a flash point of 193.2 °C. The baseline TPH concentration in the soils was 48,291.14 ppm. Soils were …

Investigation on the Characteristics of Chromolaena Odorata (Awolowo leaf) in Petroleum Hydrocarbon Degradation in Loamy Soil Environment
Abstract: The application of Chromolaena odorata (Awolowo leaf), processed into powder form, was used as a biostimulant for petroleum hydrocarbon degradation and mitigation in a loamy soil environment. In this investigation, the physicochemical and microbial characteristics of the sample were determined, as presented in this research, including pH, electrical conductivity (EC), total nitrogen (T.N), total phosphorus (T.P), potassium (K), total organic carbon, and P. fluorescence. Corynebacterium sp., Arthrobacter, Bacillus, Acinetobacter iwoffi, …

Biological Recovery of Soil Impacted by 30,000 ppm of Gasoline
Abstract: Gasoline is a mixture of low and high molecular weight hydrocarbons, which spilled on the soil due to fuel theft, causes environmental pollution. In consequence the Mexican standard, called NOM-138- SEMARNAT/SSA1-2012, establishes a maximum allowed limit of 4,400 ppm gasoline in soil. Therefore, the objectives of this research were i) biological recovery of the soil impacted by 30,000 ppm of gasoline, by biostimulation with commercial detergent 123® plus a mineral …

Investigation on the Comparison of the Physical Properties of Stimulants for Petroleum Hydrocarbon Remediation in Soil
Abstract: Crude oil pollution is a major environmental concern that can cause significant damage to soil ecosystems. Bioremediation, a natural process in which microorganisms degrade pollutants, has emerged as a promising approach for the remediation of crude oil-contaminated soil. Grape leaf powder (Vitis Vinifera), a readily available and inexpensive organic material, has been shown to stimulate microbial activity and enhance bioremediation. This study investigated the effectiveness of grape leaf powder as …

Bio-stimulation with Fresh Avocado Seed for Crude Oil Remediation: Experimental and Bio-kinetic Modelling
Abstract: The remediation of crude oil-contaminated soils requires sustainable and cost-effective solutions. This study investigates the performance of fresh avocado seed (Persea americana) as a biostimulant for the remediation of Bonny Light crude oil-contaminated soil from the Kalarugbana community, Niger Delta. A 56-day laboratory-scale experiment was conducted using bioreactors containing 1 kg of soil contaminated with 100 ml of crude oil and treated with different volumes of fresh avocado seed slurry …

Evaluation of Michaelis-Menten Constants of TPH Degradation on Clay Soil
Abstract: The degradation of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) in petroleum-contaminated clay soil remains a major environmental concern, particularly in regions with limited remediation options. This study investigates the enzymatic kinetics of TPH biodegradation using Michaelis-Menten modeling in the presence of Bryophyllum pinnatum leaf extracts as biostimulants. Fourteen bioreactors containing 2000g of contaminated clay soil were prepared with 100ml of crude oil and treated with varying doses (100ml, 200ml, and 300ml) of …
