Prediction of Compressive strength of Periwinkle Shell Aggregate Concrete Using a Quadratic Polynomial Function
Abstract: In this study, a mathematical model is developed to predict the compressive strength of normal concrete made with periwinkle shell as coarse aggregate using a quadratic polynomial function. The response function is expressed as a multivariable function of the proportions of the component materials (water, ordinary Portland cement, sand and periwinkle shell). A total of thirty experimental runs were used to demonstrate the applicability of the mathematical model developed. The …

Properties of Bentonite Stabilised with Fluorogypsum
Abstract: This paper presents the properties of the bentonite stabilised with fluorogypsum. For this purpose, commercially available bentonite and fluorogypsum were used in this investigation. The fluorogypsum content and the curing period were varied from 0% to 10 % and 0 to 28 days respectively. Compaction tests results reveal that the maximum dry unit weight increases and optimum moisture content decreases with the increase in the fluorogypsum content to the bentonite. …

Free Swelling Behaviour of Bentonite-sand Mixtures in Presence of Pore Fluids of Different Dielectric Constants
Abstract: The free swelling behaviour of bentonite sand mixtures have been studied using different percentage of ethanol-water and methanol-water solutions. Free swell index tests were conducted at different proportion of ethanol and methanol with distilled water(0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%). Free swell index (FSI), modified free swell index (MFSI) and free swell ratio (FSR) were determined from the results obtained from the tests. FSI, MFSI and FSR decrease with …

Influence of Rock Properties on Sound Level
Abstract: Rocks used as building materials or for some other purposes are tested for their physico-mechanical properties to assess their suitability. For this, rock boulders excavated from the quarries are cut, shaped and crushed in the laboratory. While carrying out these processes, it generates sound. In this study, rock boulders received from the industries were cut in the form of cylindrical shape to determine its compressive strength, density and Young’s modulus. For …

Influence of Compaction Technique on Shear Strength of Modified Subgrade Soil
Abstract: The subgrade soil is considered as the foundation for the roadway structure, it is responsible to provide the required stability for the overlaying pavement layers and to limit the deformation due to traffic load repetitions by furnishing homogeneous stress distribution. For poor soil condition, grid reinforcement or Asphalt stabilization techniques are usually implemented to control the deformation and improve shear strength of poor granular subgrade soil. In this work, the …

Stabilization using Waste plastic for Subgrade soil
Abstract: The Biggest challenge in a developing country like India is to build infrastructure system especially roads with limited financial source available. Use of local materials can considerably lower down the construction cost. If the stability of local soil is not adequate for supporting wheel loads, the properties are improved by soil stabilization techniques e.g. use of waste material obtained from industries or waste plastic in the subgrade soil, this can …
