Numerical Analysis of Flow Characterization in a Continuous Crystallizer
Abstract: In this work, hydrodynamics in a draft tube continuous crystallizer is analyzed computationally through Ansys CFD to crystallization phenomena. Hindrance to fluid mixing and particle suspension due to vortexing can be overcome by providing baffles. A draft tube ensures that it directs the flow in vertical direction ensuring good axial blending. Here CFD simulations are performed using multiple reference frame (MRF) with sliding mesh approach in transient condition for flow …

The Performance of Microbial Lipase Immobilized onto Ion Exchange Resins and onto the Natural Zeolite Clinoptilolite
Abstract: The paper describes a study into the performance of a microbial lipase immobilized on to four different ion exchangers. Lipase from the yeast Candida rugosa was immobilized onto the anionic ion exchange resins Dowex MWA-1, Purolite A109, and Amberlite IR45. The performance of the immobilized lipase in each case was evaluated by measuring the immobilization efficiency and by following the reaction kinetics of hydrolysis of a tri-glyceride ester to free …

Novel Ionic Liquids Supported Membranes: A Review
Abstract: In this work, a supported ionic liquid membrane (SILM) can be prepared by impregnating different types of polymers with suitable novel phosphonium-based ionic liquids (ILs). ILs have reached an enormous interest as CO2 solvents and other engineering applications due to their unique properties such as negligible vapour pressure and selectivity, making them very attractive in order to obtain stable supported liquid membranes. This work can appraise the preparation and use …

Recovery of Succinic acid by Reactive Extraction using Tri-n-octylamine in 1-Decanol: Equilibrium Optimization using Response Surface Method and Kinetic studies
Abstract: Reactive extraction is a promising technique for the recovery of organic acids from aqueous streams. Succinic acid, is a white, odorless solid dicarboxylic acid, and is a precursor for some specialized polyesters. Present paper presents an optimization study of reactive extraction of succinic acid equilibrium studies from aqueous solutions using Tri-n-octylamine in 1-Decanol using response surface methodology including reaction kinetics in a stirred cell. Extraction efficiency (Y), a response function …

Chromatography for Chemical Separation: Types and Uses
Abstract: Chromatography is an analytical tool that is used for separating a variety of chemical mixtures. This technique was developed somewhere during the 1940s to 1950s. Initially, the technique had low efficiency with prolonged time of analysis and reduced detection range. Later, the technique was modified and improved to meet the demands of chemical separation technology. Chromatography is broadly categorized into analytical or preparative. Analytical chromatography is used for small sample …

Application of Agro-Residues for Removal of Oil Spill From Sea Surface
Abstract: Rice husk (RH), wheat straw (WS) and sawdust (SD) were studied for sorption of oil spill (diesel oil of density 0.828 g/cc was taken as oil spill for lab study) from artificially prepared sea water (3.5% NaCl) at 20, 25, 30 and 35°C at various dosages. As RH gave maximum sorption capacity at all temperatures and at all dosages under study, it was focus of investigation for its application for …

Optimization of Reaction Parameters for the Production of Fatty Acids from Rice Bran Oil
Abstract: Fatty acids are usually produced industrially by the hydrolysis of triglycerides and glycerol as by product. In this reaction, 1 molecule of fat/oil will react with 3 molecules of water. The hydrolysis can be done by with and without catalyst. The catalyst process has some inherent problems. To get better quality of fatty acids and high yield the most of the industries preferring the hydrolysis without catalyst. The present study …

Solubility Enhancement of Theophylline Drug Using Mixed Solvency Approach
Abstract: “Solubility enhancement” is one of the difficult tasks that have become a great challenge in formulation development of orally administered drugs having poor aqueous solubility. Poor aqueous solubility of drugs creates significant problems in producing formulations of sufficiently high bioavailability, thereby preventing the effective usage of these drugs. With the introduction of the concept of “mixed-solvency,” it is feasible to increase the solubility of poorly water-soluble drugs in aqueous solutions …
