A Critical Evaluation of Polypropylene Impact Copolymer Morphology
Abstract: In order to improve Polypropylene (PP) impact strength, the process of copolymerizing propylene with ethylene is being used. Polypropylene copolymer is essentially a rubber-toughened material consisting of polypropylene homo-polymer matrix in which ethylene-propylene rubber (EPR) is distributed. The overall impact behavior of the copolymer is solely controlled by the rubber morphology and its distribution in polypropylene matrix, which plays a critical role on crystallinity. Even a similar impact grade polypropylene …

Castor Oil: A Sustainable and Natural Source of Raw Material for Polyurethane Foam Synthesis
Abstract: ABSTRACTUtilization of castor oil and its derivatives as a raw material for polyurethane synthesis is gaining more attention now a days. Castor oil has the unique structural property in terms of inherent presence of hydroxyl groups in its structure, which impart the natural functionality in the castor oil. Castor oil can be utilized for manufacturing polyurethane due to its inherent structural beauty in terms of presence of OH groups in …

Experimental Demonstration on the Recording of Capillary-Filled Microfluidic Devices Fabricated by Polymeric Material
Abstract: In this present experimental work, total 52 individual PMMA microfluidic devices are fabricated by maskless lithography, hot embossing lithography and direct bonding technique in a cleanroom laboratory. The selected working liquids are dyed water, dyed aqueous ethanol and dyed aqueous isopropyl alcohol and are prepared in a materials-science laboratory. Fabricated microfluidic devices are tested by the prepared aqueous working liquids, and each capillary-filled device after the surface-driven microfluidic flow is …

Viscoelastic Properties of Polymer Nanocomposites with Polydispersity in Nanoparticle Sizes
Abstract: The viscoelastic properties of polymer nanocomposites are investigated as a function of the size distribution of nanoparticles, the nature of interactions and results are compared with the pure polymer melt. We modeled our PNCs with two sizes of nanoparticles and polymer blends and four different cases with different polymer-nanoparticle and nanoparticle-nanoparticle non-bonded interactions. We have observed the enhancement in properties is not only due to the addition of nanoparticles but …

A Model to Study the Effect of Homogeneous Nucleation and Emulsifier Amounts on Methyl Methacrylate Emulsion Polymerization in a Seeded Semi-batch Reactor
Abstract: ABSTRACTAn extensive model is developed for methyl methacrylate emulsion polymerization. The assumption of monodispersed particle size distribution is used in developing the model. It is found that inclusion of homogeneous nucleation in the model leads to under prediction of variation of conversion with time. The effects of three different emulsifier amounts on the variation of conversion with time at 50°C isothermal reactor operation, keeping all the other ingredients constant are …
