Efficiency and Reliability of DNA Extraction Methods for Ixodid Ticks (Acari: Ixodidae): A Comparative Tour
Abstract: ABSTRACTIt is well understood that DNA extraction is the primary as well as the crucial step while studying ticks at molecular level. The DNA extraction methods should be straightforward, and enough efficient as well as reliable in terms of DNA quality and quantity. In the present study, two non-commercial methods named phenol chloroform isoamyl alcohol (PCI) and cetyl-trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) and one commercial DNeasy tissue kit were compared based …

Gene Editing: Rewriting the Life and Consequences
Abstract: ABSTRACTGene editing is the rational, precise and candid modification of DNA sequences or genes in living cells and organisms, literally for anything and everything possible. Its manifestation ranging from designing disease resistant crops or therapeutic correction of defective genes responsible for myriad of debilitating diseases in human beings to reprogramming of organisms that can produce new sophisticated and potent biologicals. The possible implication of gene editing is wide ranging and …

The Need for An Ecosystemic Approach in Animal Biotechnological Settings: A Phenomenological Study
Abstract: Local and global demand for meat and dairy has been expected to increase and so do farming and research facilities which perform at high throughputs to meet such high demand of nowadays populations. However, both processes pose a challenge in maintaining production and animal wellbeing during husbandry. A phenomenological study was carried out at a research laboratory specialized in farm animal biotechnology which was compared with published records of similar …

Chemotactic Behavior of Caenorhabditis elegans in Different Chemical Gradients
Abstract: The nematode Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) has been extensively used as a model organism for studying various behavioral aspects in small organisms. Chemotaxis has, by far, been one of the most important studies to help us understand the fundamental search and avoid behavior of C. elegans. A typical chemotaxis assay involves the use of anesthetics to paralyze the worms near the center of a chemoattractant gradient that enables us to …

Caffeine Prove as Neurostimulant by Enhancing the Acid and Alkaline Phosphatase Levels in Young Rat Liver and Young and Old Aged Wistar Rat Brain
Abstract: ABSTRACTAcid phosphatase (ACP) and Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) specific activity was estimated for young (150–220 g) and old aged (320–520 g) wistar rats and for similar groups with caffeine (neurostimulant) treated whole brain and liver tissues. Rats were orally administered with caffeine 13 mg/kg body weight for 3 and 6 days. Brains of young and old rats showed significant increased ACP activity 34.21 and 22.836 nmol/min/mg of protein for 3 days …
