Abstract

Box girder bridge differs from the other bridges in that it is having better stability, economy and havingaesthetic appearance. Box girder bridges are having good strength and torsional stiffness. Mostly forthe long span, box girder is used. In this study, skew angles of 0 to 60° show different results in forcesand moments. The effect of skew angle 0 to 60° with same span is different. In the present study, thespan is having length of 31 m span and effective span of 30 m. The box girder of two cells is having thewidth 9.5 m and depth 2.5 m. In this study, the various IRC codes are used for the loadings. STAADPRO V8i Software has been used for analysis of the Grillage Model. The models are simply supported. The main parameters used in the study are the deflections, bending moments, support reactions andtorsions. These parameters increase with the increase in skew angle from 0 to 60°. It is quite interestingthat torsion is exaggerated to a great extent than bending moment and defection. The effect of skewangle for reaction and torsion are mainly observed in obtuse corner than the acute corner. Keywords: Box girder bridge, grillage model, skew angle 0 to 60°, bending moment, shear force, deflection, and torsion, STAAD Pro
