Abstract

At the course of the research work, bore- holes were dug at the proposed site and soil samples were collected at depth 1m, 2m, and 3m for geotechnical analysis to determine the suitability of the site for 3-storey Agricultural Engineering complex construction. The laboratory analysis performed yielded the results listed below; It was discovered that the soil's natural moisture content ranged from 11.69% to 13.01%. All samples had an exact specific gravity value of 2.65, according to the specific gravity test. According to the Aatterberg's limit test, the plasticity index (PI) ranges from 17.6% to 26.2%, the liquid limit (LL) runs from 34.0% to 43.05, and the plastic limit (PL) goes from 16.1% to 20.0%. Lean Clay (CL) was the classification given to the soil by the Universal Soil Classification System (USCS), which was used to classify the soil. The following outcomes of a triaxial test were attained: Angle of internal friction () values range from 7.06° to 13.970°, and cohesion (Cu) values range from 17.9 KN/m2 to 39.32 KN/m2. The outcomes of a wet sieving procedure were as follows: Effective diameter (D10) values range from 0.052 to 0.053 mm, effective diameter (D30) values range from 0.16 to 0.17 mm, effective diameter (D60) values for all soil samples were exactly 0.36 mm, CC (Coefficient of Curvature) values range from 0.1342 mm to 1.368 mm, CU (Coefficient of Uniformity) values range from 6.792 mm to 6.923 mm, percentage sand ranges from 77. The resultant bulk density varies between 1.90g/cm3 and 2.02g/cm3. The soil weighs between 18.639 and 19.816 kilograms per cubic meter. The soil's dry unit weight ranges from 16.63 to 16.89 KN/m3. The soil has a permeability that ranges from 1.09 109 cm/sec to 1.1 104 cm/sec. For a square footing, the soil's ultimate bearing was determined, and the results range from 415.358 KN/m2 to 479.192 KN/m2. The safe bearing capacity was determined to range from 138.453KN/m2 to 159.73KN/m2 using a factor of safety of 3. It was discovered that the soil from the potential location was an expanding clay, and the maximum bearing capacity was larger than 100KN/m2. Consequently, the location is suitable for the development of a three-story agricultural engineering complex.
