Creating energy system resilience through stand-alone hybrid solar PV-wind energy system - a case study in India

  1. Rupsha Bhattacharyya

Abstract

A grid-independent hybrid energy system consisting of commercially available solar photovoltaic panels of 250 W peak power rating and micro wind turbines of 30–40 kW power rating has been considered for electricity production at a selected location in India as a case study. The energy system configuration that leads to lowest levelized electricity cost at that location has been identified through parametric analysis. The configuration has been found to have techno-commercial merit in the present-day scenario. The actual power consumption profile of the site has not been considered but it would be required to estimate energy storage or back up requirements. Such energy systems can benefit remote locations which are not connected to the national grid and it can even enhance system resilience in locations which are served by the grid by adding a level of diversity to the energy mix. The potential reduction in CO2 emissions and possible financial savings by avoiding carbon taxes by the use of such a system has also been estimated.
