Abstract

Li-Fi, an acronym for Light-Fidelity, is a novel technology that was first introduced by Dr. Harald Haas from Germany in 2011. It allows the transmission of data through light using LED light bulbs. Like Wi-Fi, Li-Fi is a Visible Light Communication (VLC) technology that provides high-speed communication. While Wi-Fi is suitable for providing wireless connectivity in buildings and societies, Li-Fi is ideal for providing high-density wireless data coverage in restricted areas without any obstacles. Li-Fi outperforms Wi-Fi in terms of high bandwidth, security, efficiency, and availability, and has already demonstrated high speeds in laboratory settings. This article aims to explore the future potential of Li-Fi technology, which uses visible light as a carrier in data transmission and networking. Visible light communication (VLC) is a promising technology that uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to transmit data wirelessly. The benefits of VLC include high-speed data transmission, security, and reduced electromagnetic interference. In this paper, we discuss the basics of VLC, including the modulation techniques and encoding methods used to transmit data. We also examine the challenges faced by VLC, such as limited range and interference from ambient light sources.
