Massive MIMO Technologies: A Review

  1. Amita Agnihotri ✉

Abstract

This paper discusses the study and exploration of massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MMIMO) wireless access technology spurred by the global bandwidth shortage in the wireless communication sector (MIMO). Massive MIMO is a major enabling technology for next-generation networks that combines antennas at both the transmitter and receiver to enable exceptional spectrum and energy efficiency with little processing. The effective deployment of 5G—and beyond—networks to realise diverse applications of the intelligent sensing system requires a better understanding of the massive MIMO system to solve the fundamental challenges of this technology. We offer a detailed review of the key enabling technologies for 5G and 6G networks in this study, with a focus on large MIMO systems. We go over all of the key aspects of a massive MIMO system, including pilot contamination, channel estimation, precoding, user scheduling, energy efficiency, signal identification, and some cutting-edge mitigation strategies. We also go over important open research questions that will guide future research on massive MIMO systems for 5G and beyond networks.
