Nanostructured Metal Oxides as Promising Electrode Materials for Microbial Fuel Cells

  1. Abhishek Chaudhary

Abstract

Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) are emerging as a promising technology for generating sustainable energy from organic waste materials. One of the key challenges in developing efficient MFCs is the selection of suitable electrode materials. In recent years, nanostructured metal oxides have gainedconsiderable attention as electrode materials for MFCs due to their unique structural and electrochemical properties. This review highlights the recent progress in the development and application of various types of nanostructured metal oxides as electrode materials for MFCs. The review covers the synthesis, characterization, and performance evaluation of different types of nanostructured metal oxides, including zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, iron oxide, and other transition metal oxides. The use of these materials as anodes, cathodes, and mediators in MFCs is discussed. The review also highlights the challenges and opportunities associated with the use of nanostructured metal oxides as electrode materials for MFCs. Overall, the findings suggest that nanostructured metal oxides have great potential as electrode materials for MFCs and couldsignificantly improve the efficiency and stability of MFCs.
