Abstract

Polyethylene terephthalate is a synthetic material referred to as PET. Strapping, basically is the process of stacking with the help of numerous straps and strapping tools. PET strap is in fact a sturdy material used for packaging of several goods. PET strap has an increased temperature resistance and high tensile strength. It is generally used for packaging and bundling. In this experimental work, PET straps are used in concrete in the form of fibres to study the behavior of tensile strength and flexural members for the addition of PET strap fibres. In total, eighteen test specimens were cast for each test to study all aspect ratios of PET strap fibres. The cylindrical specimens to test tensile strength and prism specimens to test flexural strength were cast and cured for twenty eight days for a nominal mix proportion with a w/c ratio of 0.45. Based on the obtained test results it was concluded that the aspect ratio 55 is good and it can be added up to 2% by weight of cement in the production of PET strap fibre reinforced concrete.
