THERMODYNAMICS OF HEAVY METALS (Hg2+, Cd2+, Fe2+AND Ni2+) ADSORPTION USING BOILER FLY ASHBy Jude C. Igwe, Okoronkwo N. E., Aghalibe C. U., Onwuka K. E., Achilike K. O, Joseph E. E., Ujarah C. E.
Abstract: The effect of temperature on the adsorption of heavy metals, Hg2+, Cd2+, Fe2+ and Ni2+ using unactivated boiler fly ash (an agricultural waste) was investigated. The results showed that Hg2+ and Cd2+ ions were mostly affected by increase in temperature because their sorption rate decreased at high temperature. At the temperature of 273 K and 383 K, the amount of Hg2+ adsorbed (mg/g) by the unactivated boiler fly ash was …

POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS (PAHs) AND HEAVY METALS IN SELECTED DRIED SEA FOODS FROM PORTHARCOURT CITY NIGERIABy Jude C. Igwe, Kelechi E Onwuka, Chinyere G. Nneke, Chidi . Wogu, Christopher U Aghalibe, Emeka . Ezeudu, Emeka E. Joseph
Abstract: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHS) and heavy metals constitute environmental recalcitrant pollutants which are toxic and carcinogenic. The levels of PAHs and heavy metals (As, Hg, V, Zn, Pb, and Cr) in dried sea foods: prawn (Panaeus monodon), water snail (Bithynia tentaculata), periwinkle (Littorina littorea), conch (Lobatus gallus) and Oyester (Ostrea edulis) were determined. PAHs were determined using GC/FID and the heavy metals were determined using AAS. Total PAHs ranged from …
